Legalizing Marijuana? Oh Yes!

On Gabrielle's blog "I've Got It All (Most)" she talks about legalizing medical marijuana in Texas. I do agree with her  that this could help people with their pain. She makes a good point that it would not only help just the people that actually need it medically, but it would also create 200,000 jobs. Plus the fact that it can make $952 million in revenue for the state off the sale tax on it.The only issue I have with this idea is that there are people that would cheat the system doing anything they could to get their hands on marijuana for any purpose that is wanted. This idea of legalizing marijuana over all is a good idea if they have a plan to keep it under control. There are already 14 states that have marijuana legalized for medical marijuana purposes and I haven't heard of any problems with this in any of the states. What really is the worst thing that could happen? That Texas makes the medical marijuana legal; things get out of control and they have the ban it again. I mean yes, that is a lot of work, but legalizing it really wouldn't be a bad idea to try and see what happens. This could help many people and help Texas in general.

The Burnt Orange Report makes a very good point with this Republican party that Texas has going on right now.  They say that “we will have to throw some people out in the street” if they stay on the track that their on.  If this is the plan that they are sticking with and they have to take action such as that like The Burnt Orange Report says, they don’t have to say it so “blantantly”.  They have a great plan, according to them, and everything is going to work out great getting us out, but where is the plan that shows us where we’re going to get that extra 60% that were getting back from the Federal Government for all the Medicare and Medicade that we’re getting as a state right now.  According to the Burnt Orange Report, Texas is already 25 BILLION dollars short.  Can we only imagine what’s going to happen when they decide to put their plan into action and we’re not getting that 60% back from the federal government that we desperately need as a state?  The only thing that this plan is going to do is get Texas into more trouble financially.  I completley agree with The Burnt Orange Report that this is all a “lie” and that all the plan is good for is it  “ fully intends to throw as many people into the streets as possible with a slash and burn approach to governing that has no mercy.”  This plan is not ok to go through with and it needs to be stopped before it is completely in full position. The Republican party has lost its mind with the plan.

This is a scary matter when you see how uncontrolled the city jails are being runned. It may seem that they are being watched and taken care of but as it states in Reanna's blog that "up to 40% of deaths in city jails are suiside." Like Reanna says, how can these people really be treated great and always taken care of that they have such a horrible life that 40% of deaths are suiside in a city jail. I can also say that I may disagree with Reanna a little on when she says that if the city jails are not being taken care of properly that they should not even be here. Although most people that are there are only there for short periods of time where would they be if they had no punishment? So I do have to say that we need the systems running  but it seems to me that most people are clearly not being taken care of properly. They say that it  is expensive to inspect the city jails but maybe they need to be check every few years so that they MUST keep up with standereds. If  they inspect these city jails and they are up to standards then the suiside rate should majorly go down. They city jail inspection could make things a lot better for a lot of people if we just took care of the jail and they people that are in them.

What My Own Eyes See of the Government in Texas

Government means to me, structure and an outline of what we need to be doing.  If we didn't have government, then what would we be as a state? Could we be as civilized as we are now? I doubt it. Some people may disagree with the government and I think we all do at some point. I know quite a few people that would like to give Rick Perry the boot this time around and start with something new. Me personally, I want a change. I think Perry has done a lot for us as a state, but I think that we need more change now in these times. I will have to give congrats to Perry for giving us so many jobs over the time that he has been in office.

I know right now there is a lot of early voting going on and I feel that if you have the right to vote, then EVERYONE needs to vote.  Me personally, having never voted, feel the need to start interacting with our government and learning more about it.  Someday, those seats will be filled with people in my generation and if more people don't step up now, there might not be a government in the future. A lot of people think that it's all about what the government wants, but if we just speak out as a group about what we want, then perhaps the government will listen. If they don't want to listen, we can unite as one group and speak out. This will help us all out by doing what we think is right as the people of our state. There are so many people out in the state of Texas that don't care about what is going on with our government, especially us young folks, but we ALL really need to pay attention to our government and tell them what we want to happen with our state.  My point being that many of us don't pay close enough to our government to even know what is going on and to put our input on things to make the state and local government better. If we all paid a little more attention things might work better for the people of the state of Texas and for the government working together.

The "stimulus" - One Year Later
 This problem has been shown throughout the United States; you can even see it in the towns around me. Obama was so proactive about getting this bill passed right away and it has shown no progress whatsoever. Like the blog says, the only thing that has shown in the past year is 4.02 million jobs have been lost. The bill was supposed to help out 3.5 million people throughout the nation to get a job. Now that more jobs have been lost than gained as the blogger says, now Obama has more work than he even started with because he will have to find the 4.02 million jobs that were lost PLUS the 3.5 million he promised to give to people by the end of the year.   Obama clearly was not thinking at the time of the bill or if it actually was going to work or help anyone.  Obama's  "...top economic advisers offered a cautious forecast on Thursday that U.S. job gains for 2010 will average 95,000 a month," but this does not look very promising considering that this was posted in February. Thus, if it stays at this pattern, Obama would still fall short of jobs that he was promising to the nation.  Before the bill was passed, the statistics say that the unemployment rate was at 7.7%.  Since the bill has been passed it has risen to over 10%.  I completely agree with the blogger that things just went down hill since the bill has passed. The blogger makes a good point about the cost of the bill. America is already struggling with money and another $862 BILLION dollars went down the drain and has gone to waste. This bill simply did NOT do anything
